Eva, why PiNCAMP?

’I did my traineeship at PiNCAMP, which has its headquarters in Berlin. However, it was also possible to do the traineeship in The Hague. I personally wanted to be challenged, not only by the content of the traineeship, but also by living abroad and everything that comes with it.’

PiNCAMP is a booking platform for campsites in Europe and is owned by ANWB (the Netherlands), ADAC (Germany), and TCS (Switzerland).

’I received a scholarship from PiNCAMP, so I already knew about them and decided to use those contacts. What was decisive for me, was the interview, where we decided that the focus of the traineeship should be on sustainability, a topic that I find very interesting.’

The traineeship
’During my traineeship, I did research on the role PiNCAMP could take towards its members, meaning the campsites, in terms of sustainability and especially the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive. I conducted this research by conducting interviews at several campsites and performing desk research. The outcomes could later be used in, for example, newsletters.’

My experience
’What I learned most during my traineeship, is that you have to speak up and be proactive. But mostly to be curious about all the different parts that a company has. In addition, I met some great people who I could contact later if I needed to.’

Destination Transformation Project
Part of this traineeship phase is the Destination Transformation Project. Students undertake a consultancy project for an outdoor hospitality destination, analysing and developing an advice on a complex issue. Linking the reality of the outdoor hospitality industry to the national tourism context of the country.

’My topic of research is how campsites in Berlin can capitalise on the low season, especially winter. While many campsites in Berlin are popular during the summer, they remain underutilised in the winter, despite the high number of city trips that take place during this time.’

Master's programme
Tourism and Hospitality Innovations is a specialisation of the master Tourism Destination Management, with a focus on Sustainable Outdoor Hospitality Management.
