Jola, why TOP Animation

'I completed my traineeship with TOP Animation, a company operating throughout France.  My role as a regional representative required me to travel across the country, visiting various campsites. I carried out this work from a car, staying in a tent as I moved between locations.’

TOP Animation has been the provider in animation work for over 25 years for both entertainers and campsites in the Netherlands and France.

‘I first became familiar with TOP Animation while working for them in the Netherlands during my younger years. Later, I reconnected with the company through Richard Otten, who gave a guest lecture. This motivated me to apply for a traineeship with them, as I was captivated by their expertise in campsite animation.

The traineeship
‘During the traineeship my main responsibilities involved travelling to campsites (approximately three a day) to ensure satisfaction on both ends. I checked in with campsite owners to confirm they were happy with the animation services provided, and I met with animators to address any issues they faced, whether personal or professional.’

My experience
This traineeship has significantly shaped my career path. I am now writing my thesis for TOP Animation, and I will start working for the company after my graduation.

This experience has taught me several valuable lessons:

Understanding multiple perspectives: every story has multiple sides, and it's crucial to consider the context and cultural background of each party involved.

Neutrality and mediation skills: I learned how to remain impartial, listen actively, and navigate conflicts effectively to find balanced solutions.

This experience has not only deepened my knowledge of campsite animation but has also solidified my future career plans in this field.’

Destination Transformation Project
Part of this traineeship phase is the Destination Transformation Project. Students undertake a consultancy project for an outdoor hospitality destination, analysing and developing an advice on a complex issue. Linking the reality of the outdoor hospitality industry to the national tourism context of the country.

‘I focused on a gap in the literature regarding the preferred animation activities for different age groups. To address this, I conducted research among Dutch children visiting campsites in France. The study involved letting the children design their own animation programmes, providing insights into their preferences by age segment.

To provide a comprehensive perspective, I also analysed the topic from the viewpoint of multiple stakeholders. I conducted interviews with campsite owners to understand the animation activities they offered and how they catered to different age groups. Additionally, I interviewed the company to gain insights into their approach to addressing the diverse needs of these age segments.

Master's programme
Tourism and Hospitality Innovations is a specialisation of the master Tourism Destination Management, with a focus on Sustainable Outdoor Hospitality Management.
